What is SMART?
Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is a planned 70-mile commuter rail line beginning in Cloverdale (Sonoma County) and terminating in Larkspur at Larkspur Landing. The project also includes the construction of a paved multi-use path following the rail line. Both the rail line and the multi-use path are intended to provide alternative transportation options to Highway 101, which is often congested during peak morning and evening commute hours.
The Larkspur SMART Station will be located in Larkspur Landing, directly east of Highway 101 and adjacent to the Cal Park Hill Tunnel multi-use pathway.

Station Area Planning
In May of 2011, the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments granted the City of Larkspur funding to develop a Station Area Plan. The Plan will address preferred land uses and multi-modal circulation in the area immediately surrounding the planned Larkspur SMART station, referred to as the Station Area. A Program Environmental Impact Report is will be prepared to analyze the Plan's potential environmental impacts.
